General Overview of League Operations

  1. Season Operations: The National Flex Football season for Northern CA will run from early September through the end of October with a 7 week season plus a season championship as the 8th weekend
  2. Game Dates: All games are on Saturdays for K-6th Graders check the schedule below for details!
Grade Based Organization: National Flex Football is a grade-based organization, players play in their designated grade level
  3. Practices/Game Schedule: Expect two practices per week including practice and games are on the SAME DAY – parents need only allocate a 2-hour window of availability each weekend and another 1-2 hours during the week for their child’s involvement in the program. Practice hours take place immediately prior to a participant’s scheduled game time as well as another practice designated by the coach
  4. Game Play: Each Flex Game game is 9 versus 9 in a non-head or shoulder contact environment. The field length is 40-yards long – up to 3 games operate simultaneously on the same regulation football field
  5. Coaches: NFX will organize experienced coaches who have been educated and certified on Flex Gameplay, Player Safety, and Team Management by NFX Staff. All volunteers will go through a stringent vetting process that includes training and certification by NFX Staff. Coach expectations are outlined in the Flex Football Rule Book, which will be provided to all head coaches and volunteers prior to the beginning of the season
  6. Team Roster Size: Teams are comprised of 12-15 players maximum, limited exceptions on a case-by-case basis
  7. Season Fees: $200.00 – Registration Fees include individual participant insurance, field and ref fees, custom team uniform including Jersey and Shorts, and other league related fees
  8. Uniform Delivery: All season uniforms will be shipped to your coach and distributed at practice a week before week 1

Practices and games will be played under all conditions unless noted otherwise due to extreme weather or other issues. Throughout the season, any changes to the 2019 Season Schedule will be made with appropriate lead time yet our aim is to maintain a consistent and predictable schedule for all grade levels and subsequent teams.

Preliminary practice and game times for the 2019 season are listed below – NOTE THAT THESE TIMES ARE NOT FINAL. Final scheduling for the season will occur in late August (or earlier)! All final schedules will be posted and announced via email notification when finalized.

Practices will all be local to the town that you selected when signing up. Once teams are formed, we ask that you communicate the days that work best for your family and coaches will do their best to accommodate.

The National Flex Fall Football program seeks to foster an environment to teach and instruct the principles and techniques of football in a safe, competitive environment. We encourage all prospective participants to enter at their comfort level and grow their individual skills at their own pace throughout the season. Both male and female participants are welcome! All teams will have a certified Head Coach.

No prior Flex Football experience is required to participant in the National Flex Football Program. Flex Football equipment will need to be rented or purchased prior to week 1 (Approved vendors only)
It is required that all players wear cleats, uniforms are included in the league registration fees. Our program is community-based, teams are formalized by schoolmates, buddy lists, and friends where possible.

We strive to strike an ideal balance between healthy competition and player/character development. National Flex Football is always a ‘one trophy’ league as we believe that recognition for participation is not an effective means of helping develop young athletes. In fact, we believe that many of life’s best lessons are learned through struggle, achievement, success and of course disappointment. We strive to foster competition yet to also find balance in the ever-changing world of youth sports.
